A laptop is a notebook style computer, and hence the synonym, “notebook”. A PC, also called the desktop computer, has 3 distinct units, namely, a CPU, a monitor and a keyboard.
- Laptop is easy to carry anywhere you go, where-as a PC is confined to your table. A laptop is usually used by students, since it is handy inside their wi-fi ready campus. Desktops are more of an institutional devices.
- Price-Laptop is cheaper than a PC.
- Net connection- Desktops shall require a dedicated line and an internet connection, whereas a laptop can use the wi-fi facility, where-ever it exists.
- Power- Desktop PC uses the electricity through a constant voltage stabilizer, which is sometimes, also provided with a back-up battery, should there be an electric failure. In USA, since electricity is available 24 x 7, a home PC can be functional round the clock. A laptop has a back up battery, which requires to be recharged after a couple of hours of usage.
- Accessories and Devices- A laptop comes fully loaded, where as a Desktop PC needs these as extras.
- Durability- Since a desk top PC is confined to a desk, the wear-and-tear is lesser than the laptop, which is always on the move.
- Memory- A Desktop PC has a higher memory than a laptop.
